Congratulations to Gerlon Congo for Qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Ecuadorian boxer Gerlon Congo secures a spot in the country's Olympic delegation for Paris 2024, adding to the total of 29 qualified athletes

Gerlon Congo, a 23-year-old athlete from Carchi, earned his ticket to the Olympic Games on Sunday, June 2, 2024, after defeating his opponent in the Thailand qualifier. In a close match, Congo emerged victorious against Cuban boxer Fernando Arzola by split decision (3-2).

This win in the qualifiers was pivotal in enhancing Ecuador's presence in Paris 2024. Congo competed in the +92 kg category, the heaviest weight class in the Olympic Games.

Upon securing his place, Congo expressed his excitement by kneeling and celebrating with his team. Alongside him, Ecuador will be represented in boxing by María José Palacios in the 60 kg category and José Rodríguez in the 71 kg category.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games
